SSG:GBENGA DANIEL's GOVERNMENT LEFT LOADS OF DEBT AND EMPTY TREASURY IN OGUN STATE

The immediate out gone governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel has been alleged to have left no kobo in the state’s treasury as at the time of leaving office. Rather, the past governor was said to have incurred huge debt.

This was made known by the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, on Wednesday when he received members of the state Council of Hausa Communities in Abeokuta. He said the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration inherited an empty treasury from its predecessor, pointing out that the Amosun led administration took over from the former governor with nothing.

In a statement issued by the Ogun State SSG, through his press secretary Kunle Sokunbi, Governor Amosun’s prudence and resourcefulness had managed to bring the state back on its feet. Adeoluwa said, “We met a state that salaries and subventions were owed. We met a state where pensions were owed for 32 months. Before they left, minimum wage was not paid. We inherited empty treasury. Even by their own admission, they said they left N50bn debt but we later discovered that the state was indebted to the tune of about N97bn.”

Meanwhile, the former is still under the scrutiny of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after previous attempts by the commission to throw him in jail have failed with their case being thrown out of court.

SHOLA AMEOBI: I JUST FEEL HONOURED TO PLAY - NIGERIA vs VENEZUELA

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has expressed his delight over an opportunity to finally play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a international friendly in which they beat Venezuela in Florida on Wednesday.

The former England Under-21 star was handed a second-half debut by coach Stephen Keshi in the 3-1 victory and, despite only playing for half-an-hour, the striker was pleased to have made the step up to international football. According to him, “It’s my first game, I just feel honoured to play international football,” he told BBC Sport.

The striker has been praised by fans and officials after helping set-up the third goal and the 31-year-old insists he has nothing but respect for his team-mates: “This game will prepare us for what to expect at the Nations Cup… We played good and made life hard for them,” he said.

On his contribution to the victory, and the quality of the opposition, Ameobi said, “It was nothing personal, we fought hard and gave our everything… They had great support here but we took the game to them. The lads were superb and I’m delighted to have contributed to a good win,” he said, praising the opposition as a quality side too.

A 40-year-old Bangladesh woman, Monju Begum, has reportedly cut off the penis of a man who was allegedly trying to rape her, and then took it to police as evidence.

According to police, Mozammel Haq Mazi, the suspect, who is also Begum’s neighbor, forced his way into her shanty and began sexually assaulting her. Investigators say Begum stopped the attack by cutting off his penis. She then placed the evidence into a polythene bag and took it into police as proof that Mazi had attempted to rape her.

Begum, a married mother of three, told the police that Mazi had been harassing her for the past six months. He is reportedly also married and has five children.

Police spokesperson, Abul Khaer, said “It is quite an unusual incident. As far as I am aware, this is the first time that a woman has brought a severed penis to the police station as evidence… We will arrest him once his condition gets better,” said Khaer.

Meanwhile, Mazi denied the allegations, telling investigators that the two were having an affair. In Mazi’s words “Recently she suggested that both of us can go settle down in Dhaka… I refused and told her that I cannot leave my wife and children, so she took revenge on me.” Doctors say the man’s pĂ©nis can not be re-attached.

NUDISTS PROTEST BAN ON PUBLIC NAKEDNESS

NUDISTS PROTEST BAN ON PUBLIC NAKEDNESS

In a country where so much freedom is allowed, nudists want theirs too. They want to be free to move about naked. They love it, they say nudity is natural.

About two dozen pro-nudity activists wearing little but their righteous indignation assembled on the steps of San Francisco City Hall on Wednesday to protest a proposed municipal ban on public nakedness.

“We are here today in response to an attack on our fundamental freedom, our freedom to be ourselves in our own city,” disrobed rally organizer Gypsy Taub declared as her fellow activists displayed signs saying, “Nudity is Natural” and “Nude is not Lewd.”

Local politicians in the famously tolerant city, where men in particular are known to frequently parade undressed through the streets of the predominantly gay Castro District, are considering a law to criminalize nudity on streets, sidewalks and plazas.

A hearing on measure by the city’s Board of Supervisors is scheduled for next Tuesday.

Following the protest, attorney Christina DiEdoardo filed suit on behalf of the nudists seeking to block the proposed nudity ban from enactment.

She contends that a prohibition on public nakedness would deprive her five clients, one of them a former mayoral candidate who ran on a nudist platform, of their constitutional rights to free speech and equal protection under law.

“The city is getting into trying to legislate and criminally enforce a dress code,” she told Reuters. “My clients are trying to save the Board of Supervisors from acting unconstitutionally.”

“Nudophobic bigotry has now taken root here in San Francisco,” Rusty Mills, 69, stripped down to his tanned birthday suit, told his fellow demonstrators as they stood in the sunshine of an unseasonably warm, 70-degree Fahrenheit (21-degree Celsius) fall day.

Supervisor Scott Wiener introduced the proposal to curb undressing after residents complained about a daily gathering of naked men in Jane Warner Plaza, a square in the Castro District. He called the lawsuit a baseless “publicity stunt.”

“There’s always been occasional public nudity in San Francisco. Over the last two years it’s gone from being this quirky, occasional thing to an obnoxious, over-the-top thing,” Wiener said in an interview.

“A lot of people who live in the neighborhood are just sick of the fact that seven days a week there are men taking their pants off and displaying their genitals on our sidewalks and plaza,” he added.

Under the proposed law, which critics dubbed the “Wiener bill,” nudity would still be allowed at permitted parades, fairs and festivals, as well as on designated nude beaches.

Violators would be fined up to $100 for a first offense and $200 for a second. Three-time offenders would face up to a year in jail and a $500 fine.

San Francisco last year began requiring nudists to cover their buttocks in public and to wear clothes in restaurants. Residents say the restrictions only incited the so-called Naked Guys to grow more exhibitionist.

During a hearing before a committee of supervisors last week, Taub, 43, extolled the benefits of going nude, then pulled her dress over her head, threw it on the floor and waved to the audience.

“We refuse to go back to the dark ages of body shame and s*xual repression,” she said, standing completely naked, except for socks and sandals, in front of a lectern. As a sheriff’s deputy escorted her from the chamber, the nude mother of three screamed, “Long live body freedom.”

Dan Glazer, owner of the Hot Cookie, a Castro bakery known for genital-shaped cookies, expressed mixed emotions about the proposed ban.

He said tourists flock to the area to see the Naked Guys and snap pictures, and probably have helped his business. He also said he would hate to see limited police resources used to enforce a nudity ban.

On the other hand, he said, the nudists have crossed the line into an irritating form of exhibitionism, and were “taking advantage of our neighborhood’s openness, of the gay community’s tolerance.”

Barely three days after armed robbers shot Inspector Ogedemgbe and a corporal dead at Ajao Estate, another policeman attached to Ejigbo Police Division was yesterday killed by robbers in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

The latest killing was at Oke Afa area at a popular joint where the corporal, simply identified as Emma, with his patrol team had gone to respond to a distress call about a robbery operation in the area.

It was gathered that when the police went to the joint, they were ambushed by the bandits who opened fire on them, killed the corporal and took away his gun, before shooting indiscriminately and escaping from the scene of the incident.

The policeman was later taken to Isolo hospital where he was certified dead and his body deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

When contacted, a Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident in the absence of the Public Relations Officer, but declined further comment.

At the Ejigbo Police station, the police officers were seen in low spirits, mourning the death of their colleague.
