ONDO: Police arrest two with N1m at polling booth

The police on Saturday arrested two persons in possession of N1 million and instructional materials on how to vote with the inscription of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The Commissioner of Police deployed for the governorship election in Ondo State, Mr. Mohammed Ndabawa, told our corespondent on the telephone that two persons were arrested at a polling unit in Owo town.

But he did not disclose the identities of the suspects.

Ndabawa, who said the election was peaceful stated that nobody was caught with any arms as at the time of filing the report around 7pm.

He said that there was no violence while commending the police and other security personnel for a job well done.

He said, “I think you can see that there was no violence. The election was peaceful and I think you people should commend us but if you don’t commend us, we will commend ourselves.”

Earlier, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Adeniran Aremu, debunked the rumoured arrest of a commissioner in the cabinet of the ruling party.

It was rumoured that the police had arrested the commissioner in Owo but the Aremu said there was nothing like that while directing our correspondent to check from other security agencies.

The Public Relations Officer of 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Lt. Emmanuel Onoja, also said he was not aware that the soldiers made such an arrest.

Gridlock on Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway as security agents enforce restriction order

October 20, 2012 by Agency Reporter Leave a Comment

A gridlock ensued on Saturday morning on Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway as security agents blocked the Ondo-Ogun and Ondo/Edo borders of the highway.

The security agents were enforcing a total restriction order by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, as part of measures to ensure a hitch-free governorship election in Ondo State.

Witnesses said a large number of inter-state transport buses were held up at both borders on Saturday morning.

The situation may not be different on the highway linking Lagos with Abuja through Ondo State, although PUNCH has yet to receive any report from there.

However, the police advised travellers to Abuja to ply the Ekiti-Abuja route.

Ondo State is a major point linking the South-West with the North, South-South and South-East by road and sea.

It shares borders with Ogun, Edo, Osun, Ekiti and Kogi states.

More details later.
